APPLIANCES

At Feller Orthodontics, we use a wide variety of orthodontic appliances to fit any need that our patients have. There are some kinds of appliances that are used to facilitate the jaw growth of children, appliances that are used in conjunction with braces, and yet still other appliances that can move teeth without the need for braces. Dr. Feller has trained an in-house laboratory technician who makes most of our appliances, so that we can reduce the wait time to provide these appliances to our patients. We only use third party laboratories with the highest standards and quality for our patients.

Rapid Palatal Expander (RPE) – Attached to the upper molars through bonding or by cemented bands, the Rapid Palatal Expander is an orthodontic device used to create a wider space in the upper jaw. It is typically used when the upper jaw is too narrow for the lower jaw or when the upper teeth are crowded.

Trans-Palatal-Arch (TPA) – a thin wire that goes across the roof of the mouth from first molar to first molar. Most people get a TPA to maintain arch width and aid in molar movement that wires alone can’t achieve.

Lower Lingual Holding Arch (LLHA) – a space maintaining appliance used to prevent your lower molars from moving. It consists of two metal bands attached to the lower first molars connected by a wire that runs along the inside of your lower teeth.

Herbst – a fixed or removable appliance designed commonly to correct overbite problems and more.

Forsus – a non-removable appliance used in conjunction with braces to normalize any discrepancies between the upper and lower jaws.

Headgear – an appliance worn partly outside of your mouth in conjunction with braces which creates just enough force to move the teeth properly and guide the growth of the face and jaws.

Facemask – Facemask or reverse-pull headgear is an orthodontic appliance typically used in growing patients to correct under bites by pulling forward and assisting the growth of the upper jaw, allowing it to catch up to the size of the lower jaw.

Spring Retainer – designed to correct minor rotations of anterior teeth. It is a removable, self-activating appliance similar to other traditional spring retainers, but, because it is a more flexible design it will allow for a slightly greater degree of correction with one appliance.

Lip Bumber – a removable orthodontic device typically made of a metal wire connected to a piece of molded plastic that is used to push the lower molar teeth back to create space for teeth in the front of the mouth.
